Listening to records is something that hardly ever happens anymore. I must admit that I have gotten used to the pristine sound of digital recordings - they can make you feel as though you're right in the room. But this wonderful video made me think. Somehow, the scratchiness of the 78 rpm brings the recorded performance to life in a very special way. It's as though there is almost nothing in-between us and the ghostly performance vibrating in our ears. No lasers, fancy amplifiers, or high-tech speakers; just a piece of vinyl spinning at a very special speed and a needle - vibrating and recreating the very same sounds from the grooves which were created by Mr. Rachmaninoff.
